Birth is the beginning of life; to be born again is to begin anew, as those that have lived wrongly in the past or lived without purpose. It is to have a new nature, new principles, new affections, new aims. Jesus in John 3:3 told Nicodemus, “Ye must be Born Again”. By our first birth we are corrupt, shapen in sin and iniquity; we must therefore undergo a second birth; our souls must be fashioned and enlivened anew. To be Born Again means to be born from above by a divine and heavenly life of communion with God. Apostle peter termed it to partake of the divine nature “…having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
Those that are regenerated or Born Again are made spiritual, and refined from the dross and dregs of sensuality. The dictates and interests of the rational and immortal soul have retrieved the dominion they ought to have over the flesh.
The corrupt nature, which is flesh, takes rise from our first birth; and therefore the new nature, which is spirit, must take rise from a second birth. If a man is born of his mother a hundred times, that would not mend the matter, for still that which is born of the flesh if flesh; a clean thing cannot be brought out of an unclean. He must seek for another original, must be born of the Spirit, or he cannot become spiritual.
In Genesis 3:1-15, by indulging the appetite of the flesh, in eating forbidden fruit corruption and sin are woven into the nature of man which is passed to all men, (Romans 8:14-18) we are shapen in iniquity, which makes it necessary that the nature be changed. It is not enough to put on a new coat or a new face, but we must put on the new man, (Ephesians 4:24) we must be new creatures. 2 Corinthians 5:17 To be born again pray ACKNOWLEDGE – acknowledge you are a sinner “for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23, 6:23) REPENT – Repent of all sin by CONFESSING to God, asking Jesus to cleanse you with His precious Blood shed at calvary and promising God to FORSAKE all the sins and never to go back to them anymore, “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: But whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” (Proverbs 28:13) BELIEVE – Ask Jesus to come into your life and Believe you are forgiven because Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:21) Now you are born again, start living a new life.
