Pilate was the Roman governor of Judea during the time of Jesus on earth, he presided over the Judgement of Jesus. The innocence of Jesus was without doubt proved before all, even his wife sent to him saying "...Have thou nothing to do with that just man..." (Matthew 27:19).

Feeling the weight of conscience after the forceful desire of the Jews for Jesus to be crucified, when they said he made himself a king and they have no king but Ceaser, he asked for water to wash his hand, which is a mockery show of his innocence from the unjust conviction and crucifixion of Jesus.

But the big question is what is the primary aim of Jesus being sent to Pilate? The primary aim is for Jesus to save Pilate, "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10).

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:16,17).

Pilate is part of the world that Jesus came to save, that is why Jesus was sent to visit him by God the Father. Unfortunately Pilate, like the Jews, did not know the time of his visitation for salvation.

Jesus knew his suffering on the cross for humanity is temporary which will grant those that believe in him eternal salvation in heaven but the suffering in hell is eternal for those that reject him, so his wish for Pilate is for Pilate to be saved for it is not the will of God that any man should perish but that all should come to repentance, including Pilate.

But salvation for heaven and suffering in hell is a personal choice and not forced upon any one. Unfortunately for Pilate, he made the choice of eternal damnation in hell forever and forever when he rejected him as his King even after Jesus told him of Kingship and kingdom as stated in John 18:33-34,36-37.

Then Pilate asked Jesus "Art thou the King of the Jews? Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me? Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice".

Pilate! What a chance! What a love! What an immeasurable opportunity to save your eternal soul that the King of kings came to visit you to save you.

The truth is that Jesus is the King of the everlasting kingdom of God. Alas Pilate lost his soul by rejecting Jesus as his king, by saying, "Am I a Jew? and writing Jesus of Nazareth, the king of the Jews, excluding himself since he is not a Jew.

If he accepted Jesus as King of his life, Jesus will still be crucified because it has been pre-determined by God that Jesus will die and suffer for the sin of humanity including the sins of Pilate who is evil and murderous for he killed people and mingle their blood with sacrifice.

Today Pilate is in hell because, he lost the greatest opportunity of life. According to John Fox in his book of martyr, Pilate later was deposed and he died miserably by suicide.

Pilate today represents all ruling class, the Presidents, Prime Ministers, Governors, Heads of State, Traditional Rulers etc., in fact all that are in authority, Jesus loves them all and died for all. He loves the ruler and the ruled, he loves the rich and the poor, he loves the illiterate and the literate, he loves and died for all.

Whosoever receives him as King and Lord of his or her life by calling upon him for salvation shall be saved. Therefore, are you a President, Governor, Law Maker, Minister, Traditional Ruler, King, Judge, rich man, poor man , illiterate, literate.

Whatever class you belong to, Jesus loves you and will not want you to perish like Pilate. He is the soon coming King that will judge all Kings, Judges, Ruler, Presidents and everybody including Pilate on the judgement day.

All that rejected him will be cast into the lake of fire that burns with sulphur and brimstone forever and forever and all that receive him and surrender to his Kingship and Lordship will rule and reign with him in his Kingdom.

To receive Jesus into your heart, pray this prayer, Lord Jesus, I receive you as the King of my life because you died for me and rose from dead for my justification, forgive my sins and give me the power to sin no more, in Jesus name i pray, Amen.
